Welcome to the Upper Dauphin Area School District, home of the Trojans! At UDA we strive to provide a challenging environment where students can enjoy learning while “reaching for the bar,” which is consistently set high. We recognize the value of hard work and take pride in putting forth an “honest day’s effort” each and every day. These values are reflective of those held by the people of our rural, agricultural community.

The mission of our district is to empower our students to be lifelong learners in order to reach their greatest potential. As part of this quest we offer our students a wide range of educational and extracurricular activities designed to prepare them for future employment, further education, and active citizenship. UDA’s dedicated and enthusiastic staff, in partnership with parents and community and business groups, is committed to the belief that “students are our purpose.”

Enjoy your tour through our web site. We hope that the information found on its pages will be helpful to you in learning more about our schools. We also hope it conveys our commitment to educational excellence as well as our sense of Trojan pride!

The Upper Dauphin Area School District and the entire Upper Dauphin Area community was greatly shocked and saddened by the untimely passing of one of our graduates, Brett Shadle, a Navy SEAL who was killed in a training exercise last Thursday, March 28, 2013.

Brett played soccer and basketball when he was in school, and he was a good student and a good friend to his schoolmates. He is remembered by all as a singularly hard worker who dedicated himself to his chosen purpose.

While not yet a completed project, several sections of the Upper Dauphin Area School District Policy Manual are now available online. Additional policies will be posted to the online manual as they are adopted by the UDA Board of Education. The manual contains a powerful search engine that provides search options by policy number or name, key word, phrase, index or table of contents. The Policy Committee is presently reviewing 200-level policies. Policies related to employees, finances, property, operations and community will follow.

Upper Dauphin Area's Carpentry/Carpenter program is among 25 career and technical education programs in the state to have been awarded an Equipment Grant administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Through a competitive grant process, the Department of Education administers the Equipment Grant program to provide funding for the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment to better prepare students for the jobs of tomorrow. The District will use the grant funds to purchase a 48" x 48" CNC router.

The Upper Dauphin Area School District joins with schools across the country in expressing our sympathy and support to the community of Newtown, Connecticut.

Speak Up 2012

This year's Project Tomorrow Speak Survey came to a close on December 14th with over 1,000 Upper Dauphin Area students participating. Over 100 staff and parents also contributed to this study. Survey counts include:

After much study and debate, the Keystone Exams have become a reality and were recently administered to Upper Dauphin Area's high school students. High School juniors (and freshmen and sophomores who completed a Keystone-related course) took the Algebra I and Biology Keystones in December. All Juniors will take the Literature Keystone during a second winter testing window in January. By year's end, all Pennsylvania students in grade 11 will have participated in the Algebra I, Biology, and Literature Keystone Exams.
