The School Social Worker is accountable for the execution of various core knowledge areas identified for the position. The person in this position uses professional skills to ensure that the assigned core knowledge areas are carried out effectively to meet the goals and objectives set forth annually by the School Board, Superintendent of Schools, and Director of Special Education and Student Services.
- Advocate for the child and mobilizing family, school and community resources to enable the child to learn as effectively as possible.
- Participate in special education assessment meetings as well as individual educational planning meetings.
- Participate as a member of Compulsory Attendance Improvement Program teams.
- Participate as a member of the Threat Assessment teams.
- Work to help families solve problems in a child’s living situation that affect the child’s adjustment in school and academic outcomes.
- Prepare social or developmental histories for students.
- Assist with the development of emotional and behavioral intervention strategies.
- Work with students to improve conflict resolution, anger management, and resiliency capabilities.
- Provide resources and assistance to help alleviate family stress.
- Assist parents with obtaining access to programs available to students with special needs and school and community resources.
- Assess students with social and emotional concerns.
- Develop and execute staff training programs.
- Develop and execute student support groups and student educational programs.
- Assist teachers with behavior management.
- Help the school districts to obtain support from social and mental health agencies.
- Assist with the implementation of adult mentoring, peer mentoring, and other student support programs.
Required Education Level:
Bachelor’s Degree
License:
A valid PA driver’s license
Licensed social worker (LSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LSCW) preferred

Work Year:
Full-time, 200 Days based on District Schedule
Work Schedule:
7.5 Hours
Specific hours set by the Superintendent of Schools to meet the needs of each building.
Emergency Management:
Position may involve emergency response activities that extend beyond the normal work day.
Job Rate:
Hiring: Salary commensurate with experience.
Ongoing: As decided annually by the School Board.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to sit at desk for extended periods.
- Repetitive movements of hands and fingers necessary for computer and calculator work.
- Some lifting (50 lbs.) and some carrying (25 lbs.).
- Some bending, stooping, climbing, reaching and turning/twisting.
- Writing and computer entry.
