The Superintendent of Schools is accountable for the overall execution and planning of all core knowledge areas identified within the Upper Dauphin Area School District. The person in this position uses executive-level management, organizational, planning, communication, technical and conflict management skills to ensure that all core knowledge areas are carried out effectively to meet the goals and objectives set forth annually by the School Board.
- Providing complete oversight of all staff and student programs.
- Advising the School Board on all matters and recommend appropriate policies for consideration.
- Implementing and executing all policies adopted by the School Board.
- Interpreting the needs of the school system and planning programs to meet those needs.
- Presenting personal recommendations on all issues considered by the School Board.
- Communicating with all stakeholders including the School Board, staff, parents, contractors, students and community partners.
- Continually improving instruction and educational programs through continuing education and analysis.
- Leading the development and improvement of school and community relations.
- Evaluating and recommending persons for appointment to positions within the District.
- Overseeing the development and implementation of the annual budget and associated purchases and revenue development processes.
- Evaluating staff and implementing corrective action where needed.
- Performing other tasks as may time to time be assigned by the School Board.
Required Education Level:
Master’s Degree plus two years of graduate study
License:
A valid PA driver’s license
Certification:
PA letter of eligibility

Experience with the overall district-wide operations of a school district.
Work Year:
Full-time, 245 Days based on District Schedule.
Work Schedule:
7:30 AM to 4:00 PM with availability for after-school events.
Emergency Management:
Must be available 24/7 to respond to emergency situations involving UDASD students, staff and property.
Position will carry or be in proximity to emergency radio communications during working hours.
Job Rate:
Hiring: Salary commensurate with experience.
Ongoing: As decided annually by the School Board.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to sit at desk for extended periods.
- Repetitive movements of hands and fingers necessary for computer and calculator work.
- Some lifting (50 lbs.) and some carrying (25 lbs.).
- Some bending, stooping, climbing, reaching and turning/twisting.
- Writing and computer entry.
Work Environment:
Office setting as well as both indoor and outdoor athletic facilities.
Equipment to Operate:
Computer, mobile devices, telephone, scanner, television and audio/visual equipment, sound system and radios.
