The Director, Special Education and Student Services is accountable for the administration, oversight and planning for various core knowledge areas identified for the position. The person in this position uses management, organizational, planning, communication, technical and conflict management skills to ensure that the assigned core knowledge areas are carried out effectively to meet the goals and objectives set forth annually by the School Board and Superintendent of Schools.
- Managing all facets of the special education program including the development and monitoring of IEPs and student placements.
- Managing the guidance counseling in cooperation with the Building Principals.
- Overseeing school health programs including management of nurses.
- Overseeing the school psychology program.
- Administering special programs assigned by the Superintendent of Schools including, but not limited to, federal programs.
- Establishing the special education curriculum for the building and ensuring that the instruction and learning activities are effective in delivering the curriculum.
- Resolving special education issues with parents, students and staff.
- Organizing and providing special education professional development for staff to enhance the school environment.
- Updating and monitoring PVAAS.
- Ensuring that special education rules are followed related to student discipline.
- Working with the Building Principals to ensure that special education courses and scheduling are completed based on IEP’s.
- Preparing for and implementing required student assessments related to special education.
- Managing programs for homeless students.
- Evaluating staff and implementing corrective action where needed.
- Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.

License:
A valid PA driver’s license
Certification:
PA Supervisor of Special Education Certification or PA Principal Certification

Work Year:
Full-time, 245 Days based on District Schedule
Work Schedule:
8 Hours with some evenings and weekends to cover extracurricular events.
Specific hours set by the Superintendent of Schools to meet the needs of each building.
Emergency Management:
Position may involve emergency response activities that extend beyond the normal work day.
Position will carry or be in proximity to emergency radio communications during working hours.
Job Rate:
Hiring: Salary commensurate with experience.
Ongoing: As decided annually by the School Board.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to sit at desk for extended periods.
- Repetitive movements of hands and fingers necessary for computer and calculator work.
- Some lifting (50 lbs.) and some carrying (25 lbs.).
- Some bending, stooping, climbing, reaching and turning/twisting.
- Writing and computer entry.
Work Environment:
Office setting as well as all buildings and grounds areas within the assigned building.
Equipment to Operate:
Computer, mobile devices, telephone, scanner, television and audio/visual equipment, sound system and radios.
