Teachers working in a virtual environment are responsible for providing an educational atmosphere where students can fulfill
their potential educationally, socially, and emotionally. In addition, teaching in this environment requires an understanding
of how best practices from a regular classroom can be applied to this innovative model.

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate the virtual instruction program’s curriculum, schedule, philosophy, goals, and objectives as
    they relate to school district goals. Design courses that meet or exceed minimum content standards.
  • Provide differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all students; utilize formative and summative assessments to
    differentiate and improve instructional practices and strategies
  • Participate actively in course discussions, ensuring that all students are participating and interacting with one another,
    utilizing this opportunity to shape discussion, call attention to other approaches, and answer specific questions raised by
    students. Encourage complex thinking, participation, and discussion by all students.
  • Clearly articulates deadlines, schedules, and procedures to students and parents to ensure that all students complete
    coursework in a timely manner.
  • Make provisions for being available to students and parents for educationally related purposes outside the instructional day
    when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  • Conduct scheduled conferences with parents/guardians or other responsible adults to assess each student’s progress, learning
    style, and any other academic, social, or developmental issues.
  • Assist students and parents with technical support requests relating to the course interface and student information systems.
    Support parents and students with school set-up and logistics questions and with basic computer set-up, navigation, and
    troubleshooting.
  • Ensures that student growth and achievement is continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area, and/or program
    classification; meet program expectations for progress monitoring and parent/student communication.
    Participate on IEP teams for students with special needs. Develop, update and supplement student learning plans to meet
    required level of rigor and the needs of the individual general education and special education needs, interests, and abilities
    of the students.
  • Utilize and test new technologies prior to being implemented by families and students.
  • Travel to regularly scheduled meetings and participate in school activities, open houses, orientations, and in-service. Attend
    and participate in all assigned professional staff meetings.
  • Continue professional growth through self-directed, as well as defined professional development opportunities, which may
    include additional training, professional learning communities, outside research, and reading professional literature.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Rate:

Hiring: Salary commensurate with experience as defined within the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Ongoing: As defined within the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit at desk for extended periods.
  • Repetitive movements of hands and fingers necessary for computer and calculator work.
  • Some lifting (50 lbs.) and some carrying (25 lbs.).
  • Some bending, stooping, climbing, reaching and turning/twisting.
  • Writing and computer entry.

Work Environment:

Classroom setting as well as all buildings and grounds areas within the assigned building.

Equipment to Operate:

Computer, mobile devices, telephone, scanner, television and audio/visual equipment, sound system and radios.

This position is non-supervisory.
