The Upper Dauphin Area Archery program has had much success over the years. Represented by both a middle school and high school team, our archery program has competed at many state championships and is always in contention for another state title. The season consists of seven local tournaments, each with competitors from local schools, some with competition that comes from out of the state. The successful season ends with the state tournament at Penn State University. Tournament teams consist of 24 archers who qualify through weekly team shoot offs for available spots. So far this year, the High School team has placed well in all the local tournaments, and the Middle School team remains undefeated. Overall, both teams are excited to continue improving as the year progresses and they look forward to the challenges to come.
The UDA Archery team practices under the National Archery in the Schools Program, NASP, which is the same shooting style that students participate in within our gym curriculum. Often, after finding interest in the gym class, students find their way to our archery program. There, they develop their skills in practice and in competition. Archery is a discipline where focus and consistency can determine success more than physical ability. For this reason, archery allows students the opportunity to be successful in sport that falls outside of the standard, physically dependent sports program. Through hard work and perseverance, success can be found for all students that actively participate in our program.
